My journey in launching a Small Business

This is my copywriting website and I am thrilled at the mere thought of its existence. It’s here in cyberspace and not just a thought in my mind. There is much to learn as well as much work to be done. I am taking a pause at the moment from formal study under American Writers and Artists Inc. Wow, I can truly say that the theme of the 2015 summer was my falling in love with copywriting. Right now, I am doing a little bit of independent study with copywriting masters such as David Ogilvy, Gene Schwartz, and John Caples. So far what’s becoming clear to me is the importance of the “Big Idea” and developing a writing style that is conversational. I am also in the process of completing portfolio pieces soon to be posted onto this website. I’ve met with two volunteers from SCORE (Small Business Administration).  They’ve helped me to devise a business and marketing plan. Also, on the to do list is the book, “Become Your Own Boss In 12 Months, 2nd Edition” by Melinda F. Emerson. I have actually had contact with Ms. Emerson on LinkedIn. I was excited when she responded to my reaching out to her. She was very helpful and said “Regine, there is a need for good copy writers, especially for email newsletter and sales letters so I think you are on to something.”  Validation from an expert on my small business choice is truly encouraging. I think I’ve accomplished a lot in the first five months of planning a small business. My learning curve has been extended. I hope to open for business by November, 2015. I look forward to servicing my first client. My next post will be “My journey in launching a Small Business – My first client.”
